Getting started

  1. Download Measure My from the Mac App Store and open it. A short welcome tour shows you around — you can replay it any time from the menu bar (Welcome Tour…).
  2. Press ⌃⌥M anywhere to show the instruments over whatever you’re working on. Press it again, or Esc, to put them away.
  3. Pick an instrument with the number keys 1–0 or from the tool rail. Drag it into place and read the measurement. ⌘C copies it.

See every instrument and its shortcuts on the instruments page, or press ? with the instruments showing.

Troubleshooting

The shortcut doesn’t open the instruments

Another app may be using ⌃⌥M. Open Settings (from the menu bar, or ⌘,) and record a different shortcut under General. The menu bar item’s Show Measurement Overlay always works too.

Clicks go to the app underneath

That’s by design: only the instruments, their readouts and the tool rail take the mouse, so you can keep working under them. Hold ⌘ and drag on empty space to draw a new measurement.

Edge snapping, gap detection or the loupe’s real pixels don’t work

These are part of Enhanced Precision, which needs Screen Recording permission. Turn it on in Settings, then allow Measure My in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording. If you just allowed it, quit and reopen Measure My. Everything else works without the permission; you just measure by hand.

Pixels or points?

Pixels are your display’s real device pixels: on a Retina display, something 160 points wide reads 320 px, exactly as it appears in a screenshot. Measure My Pro adds points, centimetres and inches; press U to switch.

Centimetres and inches aren’t offered

They appear only on displays that report their physical size reliably, or after you calibrate the display. Open Settings › General › Physical Size › Calibrate… and match the outline to a bank card or a 10 cm ruler held against the screen.

Restoring Measure My Pro on another Mac

When you write to us

It helps to include your macOS version, your Measure My version, the instrument you were using, and how many displays you have and their resolutions.
